A Canterbury teenager was hospitalized early Thursday morning after crashing into a farm stand on Voluntown Road in Griswold, State Police said.
State Police discovered the crash scene after initially responding at 1:24 a.m. to investigate a burglary alarm that went off at the farm.
Griswold firefighters and EMS extricated Courtney Susan Beckwith, 19, from her 2002 Toyota Carolla after the collision with the farm stand structure trapped her in the vehicle. She was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived.
She was transported by ambulance to Backus Hospital in Norwich and later was transferred to Hartford Hospital to be treated for incapacitating injuries.
Initial findings showed that Beckwith was driving eastbound on Route 138 in Griswold when she lost control on a turn and crossed into the oncoming lane, State Police said. Her car veered off the road and crashed into the farm stand.
The car was registered to a family member who lives in Griswold.
State Police ask any witnesses with information on the crash to contact Troop E in Montville at 860-848-6500.
