Driver Slams Into Hartford Gas Station, Injuring Attendant

A driver is facing charges after she barreled into a gas station in Hartford, took out a pump and injured the gas station attendant inside, according to police.

Police said the driver cut a curve too quickly just before 3 a.m., went careening into a gas pump at the Select gas station on Franklin Avenue in Hartford and then rammed into the store.

The gas station attendant was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries and has been released.

He said the driver was going so fast he did not even see the car coming.

Hector Velasquez, a friend of the attendant, said the victim jumped over the car.

"He turned his face to the left side and sees a car, so he jumps over the car," Velasquez said.

The driver was able to walk away from the scene.

Police said the driver has been charged with operating without a license and more charges could be coming.

Firefighters were at the scene, assessing the structural damage and the owner plans to rebuild.

They said they are thankful the automatic shut-off on the gas pump worked, otherwise a fuel spill could have occurred.
