Enfield Won't Appeal Graduation Decision for Now

The Enfield Board of Education has ruled out an immediate appeal of a decision barring high school graduations in a church.

Vincent McCarthy, the school district's lawyer, says time is running out because the schools need to plan the ceremonies that are scheduled for next week.

Graduations at Enfield and Enrico Fermi high schools will be at the schools' campuses.

A federal appeals court on Monday denied the schools' request to lift a temporary injunction and immediately hear arguments.

McCarthy has said he and the town won't settle the lawsuit, and will seek a decision from U.S. District Judge Janet Hall or an appeals court allowing graduations at the church.

Hall is expected to hear the lawsuit before next year's graduation plans are set.
