The two-alarm fire and explosion that ripped through a multi-family home on Winthrop Avenue in New Haven on Wednesday has been deemed arson, according to the New Haven Fire Department.
Flames tore through the two-and-a-half story home at 577 Winthrop Avenue around 5 p.m. Wednesday, quickly engulfing the first and second floors and spreading to the third.
Some sort of explosion rattled the structure, and the two-alarm fire ripped holes through the home's exterior. It's not clear what exploded or why.
Investigators have deemed the fire arson and continue to probe the blaze.
According to the fire department, two families have been displaced, but no one was hurt.
