Extra Cars Added to CTrail's Hartford Line

The Connecticut Department of Transportation has added extra trains to the CTrail Hartford line, which runs between New Haven and Hartford, to accommodate holiday travelers.

The four trains will provide two additional round-trip trains on Tuesday, operating five-to-10 minutes behind the scheduled northbound Amtrak trains, and 30-to-40 minutes behind Amtrak’s southbound trains.

On Wednesday, Christmas Day, the Hartford Line will operate a regular Sunday schedule. A printable version of the schedule is available at www.hartfordline.com.

“We had record-breaking demand just a few weeks ago for Thanksgiving,” said Richard Andreski, the depertment’s public transportation bureau chief. “Our rail operators and CTDOT will all be working together to ensure rail travelers have enough options to travel and spend the holidays with their loved ones.”

Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line and Shore Line East commuter lines were operating Tuesday on a a modified weekday schedule with extra service. Passengers are encouraged to visit www.mta.info/mnrwww.hartfordline.com, and www.shorelineeast.com for the latest schedule information. No additional service has been planned for the New Year’s holiday.

Many Amtrak trains were expected to be sold-out and only accepting Amtrak tickets during the holiday period.
