Connecticut State Police are planning the usual extra patrols and sobriety checkpoints this Memorial Day weekend.
Troopers say they will be checking for impaired drivers, hazardous moving violations, seat belt use and illegal cellphone use. Officials also note police departments nationwide are doing "Click It or Ticket" seat belt enforcement campaigns through June 2.
State Police are planning sobriety checkpoints in Colchester on Saturday on the Route 16 bridge over Route 2 and in New Haven on Sunday on off-ramps from Interstate 95.
During last year's Memorial Day weekend, troopers arrested 38 drunken drivers and cited 909 people for speeding, 396 for seat belt violations and 2,708 for hazardous moving violations. State Police also investigated more than 300 accidents in which one person was killed and 62 were injured.
