A Stratford family hopes they've used up all their bad luck after losing their house in a fire and then being robbed several days later.
Gerald Bowers and his elderly father were home last Monday when a fire broke out. Both men were able to get out of the home safely, but four family pets died. Since the fire Gerald Bowers, his wife, and father have been living in Stratford hotel.
When Bowers returned home to meet with insurance adjustors, he noticed that someone had broken into his home and had stolen his remaining possessions.
"They're lowlifes," Bowers said. "Karma is going to come back to bite them."

Bowers said his family is having a tough time coping financially. He has been unemployed since February 2009 and they live week to week through his wife's paycheck and his unemployment compensation.
The two pets that survived the fire needed to go to a vet and the bill was $1,000. It took a generous donation from a group from California to pay the bill. Now, Bowers is hoping to find others who will help him.
"I'm hoping the positive is that it brings the family closer together and we can all lean on each other more than we have in the past," Bowers said.
Donations to help the Bowers can be sent to 75 Jane St., Stratford, CT, 06615.
