Fans Cheer on Mets Pitcher From Connecticut in World Series

As Connecticut native Matt Harvey prepared to pitch the opening game for the New York Mets in the World Series, at least one tavern in Mystic turned Happy Hour into Harvey Hour.

Harvey was born in New London, according to mlb.com.

"If you wear a Mets hat or jacket or a Fitch High, where he went to school, jersey or jacket you get your first beer free on the house," said Wes Clark of the Voodoo Grill.

Happy Hour or Harvey Hour prices will run all night during the World Series games whether he's pitching or not.

"Everybody's a Met fan now, I mean usually there's three or four of us watching the games and usually I don't even get to put it on the TV but now with him being there, you know he lived right up the street, so tonight everybody in town's a Met fan," said Clark.

Fitch High in Groton is where fifteen-year-old Ian Cekala pitches now. His mother, Wendy, says she and her son are excited about Matt Harvey.

"It's pretty cool," said Ian. "I mean it's great that he's a Fitch alum and that he came out of Groton. Not many people can say they have an Allstar pitcher coming out of their town."
