Fashion Icon Michael Kors Comes to Greenwich

Michael Kors. The man’s name is synonymous with fashion. Whether you have tried on his latest designs in stores or seen them in the hottest magazines, locals in Greenwich got to meet him in person on Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old Long Island native showcased his fall 2010 women’s wear collection Tuesday at Richards on Greenwich Avenue. It was a swanky event.  Local fashionistas sipped on cocktails and mingled with Kors, reports the Greenwich Time. But the real kicker was the 15-minute runway show, which featured beautiful models decked out in his designer duds.

Kors described his collection as "two of the most extreme things. ... In a way, it's very casual and relaxed. But it's also very glamorous," Kors told the Time. "You get comfort, sexy and glamor all together. You've got the whole package. Why give anything up?"

Aside from being the founder and chief designer of his eponymous Michael Kors label, others might recognize him as a reality TV star and judge on “Project Runway.”

Kim Ferguson, of Greenwich, is a fan and told the paper the event was standing-room only.

"I love his style. I have all of his bags. I have all of his accessories," she added.

Scott Mitchell, co-owner of Richards, told the paper Kors is not only a talent but an “unbelievably personable, nice guy.”

“Some designers are very aloof and untouchable. But he's all about the customer," he said.

While the event was nothing short of a success, their was a minor bump in the road. PETA representatives gathered outside the clothing store to protest “ what they said was his use of animal skins and furs in clothing.”
