Two developers have been charged with allegedly pocketing hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars meant to redevelop Hartford's Dillon Stadium and lure a new professional soccer franchise to the city.
James Duckett and Mitchell Anderson face 26 federal counts, including conspiracy and fraud.
Prosecutors allege the Connecticut residents had been contracted by the city but never paid subcontractors and used city money for personal and other purposes.
Hartford ultimately cancelled their contract and filed civil suit. The Major Arena Soccer League dropped the proposed team -- Hartford City FC -- before a game was played.
Anderson was released on a $100,000 bond after appearing in New Haven federal court Thursday. His lawyer didn't immediately comment. Duckett is expected to appear in Las Vegas federal court Friday.
