Car Crushes Woman's Legs at Beseck Mountain

Police said the woman and her friend were at a scrap heap.

The Meriden Fire Department has rescued a woman who became trapped by a car while searching for scrap metal at the base of Beseck Mountain in Meriden.

A woman, who appears to be in her 20s, and her friend were scrapping for junk metal in a junk heap on Friday morning when a car in the pile shifted and trapped the woman, police said.

The woman's friend ran to a house nearby and the resident called police.

It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to free the woman.

She was taken to Hartford Hospital. Officials said she suffered "crushing leg injuries," but they do not believe they are life-threatening.

The women told police they had permission to be there.
