Fire destroyed a home on Latham Drive in Griswold and the residents' cat died in the blaze.
Two people were inside when the fire started, officials said. Both are OK, but they said their cat died.
One of the residents said he and his husband were inside and they noticed fire on the porch.
"I looked out and the porch was engulfed in flames and so I turned and I went to the bathroom and I took the garbage pail and I started trying to fill it up with water and it wasn't filling it up very well," Jake McTigue said. "I opened the door to throw it out on there and the flames just came in."
He also tried to use a hose to put the fire out.
Crews are trying to determine what caused the fire.
