Firefighters Rescue Man From River in Orange

Firefighters rescued an unconscious man who fell into the Housatonic River in Orange Sunday afternoon.

Orange and Shelton firefighters carried the man from a remote area to waiting paramedics, according to officials.

Orange Fire Chief Vaughan Dumas said the man, who is in his 20s, was using a rope swing and fell on rocks when he landed.

The man suffered head and leg injuries and was unconscious, firefighters said.

Officials said people on the scene moved the man to shore and then called authorities.

Crews transported the man to the hospital.

It is common for youths to have parties in the area, according to officials. Dumas said the area the man was hurt has presented problems before and he urges people to stay away from it.

The man's identity and condition is not known at this time.
