Bridgeport Fire Displaces 21

Twenty-one people are displaced after fire broke out at a multi-family home in Bridgeport on Wednesday morning.

More than 30 firefighters responded to 511 Berkshire Ave. at 6:43 a.m. after receiving calls reporting smoke at Berkshire Avenue and Pembroke Street and found heavy fire on all three floors.

Four people had gotten out of the building before firefighters got there and no one else was inside the home, officials said.

The firefighters initially battled the fire from inside, but then fought the blaze from outside until it was under control and safe to go back in.

No one was injured and the Red Cross is helping the 12 adults and nine children who have been displaced.

Bridgeport firefighters asked people to stay away from the area while firefighting efforts were underway, according to the fire department Twitter account
