First Alert Issued for Wind Chills on Thursday

NBC Connecticut meteorologists have issued a First Alert for Thursday for wind chills below 0.

Gov. Dannel Malloy activated the state severe weather protocol Tuesday due to a stretch of cold weather in the forecast and wind chill advisories have been issued for Hartford and Litchfield counties from 7 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday.

Wednesday features a high temperature of 19 inland and 24 along the shore. Thursday will be even colder with an inland high around 12 and a shoreline high around 20.

On Thursday, all of the state will see wind chills of -10 to 20F.

We are not expecting record cold but the peak of it will bring in some awfully low wind chills. This is the kind of cold we get at least several times a year.

The governor has activated the severe weather protocol through Tuesday, Jan. 2.

There will be warming centers open across Connecticut for anyone who may need it. A full list can be found here.
