Authorities have found the body of a man who somehow ended up in a western Massachusetts river after a car accident.

A state police dive team found the man's body in the Connecticut River between Springfield and West Springfield on Saturday.

Officials haven't released the man's name and it's not clear how he entered the water after the 7 a.m. accident in West Springfield. He was last seen in the water between Memorial Bridge and a railroad bridge.

The search began on the West Springfield side of the river and involved a police dive team, boat and helicopter.

The Hampden District Attorney's Office and West Springfield police are investigating.
