Flashing Blue Road Rage

With the flashing lights in her rear-view mirror, a young woman dutifully pulled over on Lyme Street in Old Lyme Monday.

The man who got out of the small SUV reportedly began yelling at the woman, saying he didn't approve of her driving.  And when he slapped her, she knew this wasn't a cop.

It was a volunteer Waterford firefighter improperly using his blue flashing light, said State Police.  Charles McDougal was arrested for impersonating a police officer, not to mention assault and breach of peace.

McDougal has been suspended from duty while the investigation and an internal probe continue.  His bond was set at $5,000.

Chief Timothy Hennessey got in front of the issue, saying in a press release that they are "cooperating fully in the upcoming criminal investigation in any way".
