Thanks, Flu: Some Milford Students Get Half-Day

Foran High School will dismiss students at noon on Wednesday.

A dozen students at Foran High School in Milford have shown flu-like symptoms in the past three days, and school officials will  dismiss students at noon on Wednesday in an attempt to minimize exposure.

If more students become ill, it is possible the school could be shut down for an unknown period of time, officials said, but that decision would be made on a day-to-day basis.

Foran students will arrive at school at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and will be sent home at noon. There will be no lunch period, in an effort to keep large groups of students from congregating.

School officials will also give the building a thorough cleaning.

Officials stressed that the 12 students have just exhibited “flu-like symptoms” and do not have confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus.

There are currently 587 cases reported among Connecticut residents.

DPH continues to ask residents to take precautions to prevent getting the flu or spreading it by staying home from work or school if they are sick, washing their hands frequently, and coughing or sneezing into their sleeve or a tissue.
