Pay Fines With Food

Have an Overdue Library Book, Pay Your Fine With a Food Donation

If only you could bribe your credit card company with food.

For the 23rd year, the Groton Public Library will run a program called Food for Fines. The library will waive all of your library fines for overdue books between Dec. 1 and 15 if you donate non-perishable food items.

The food will go towards the Groton Social Services Food Locker and be handed out to families in need in the Groton area.

The following items are especially needed:

  • peanut butter
  • jelly
  • powdered milk
  • breakfast cereals
  • spaghetti (dry and canned)
  • spaghetti sauce
  • rice
  • pork and beans
  • macaroni and cheese mix
  • any canned vegetables
  • canned tuna
  • meat
  • stew
  • fruit
  • fruit juice
  • baby food
  • baby formula
  • pet food

Donations work too, of course.  Those running at the program call it a win for everybody.
