Get Smart! Science Center Opens

What's being called the largest new attraction on the East Coast officially opens its doors today.

From the streets of downtown Hartford, the Connecticut Science Center looks like a giant science project along the banks of the Connecticut River. Until Friday, people could only admire it from a distance, but now the $164 million, 144,000 square foot building on Columbus Boulevard is open.

It has 150 interactive exhibits in 10 galleries, plus a 206-seat 3-D theater that children and adults will love.

Visitors can strap themselves into a flight chair for a virtual flyover of Mars, tune into the sound of their own internal organs and explore alternative energy sources.

Plus, gallery scientists will present live demonstrations.

Much of the Connecticut Science Center was created with recycled or energy savings materials and it will bring 100 jobs to Hartford.
