The Travelers Championship, a golfing staple in Connecticut since 1952, ain't traveling anywhere.
The Travelers Companies, with its sponsorship contract set to expire next year, has signed on to sponsor the event through 2014.
The insurance company began sponsoring the event, at the River Highlands TPC in Cromwell, in 2007. The proceeds go to benefit local Jaycees.
“I am extremely pleased that The Travelers will extend its title sponsorship of The Travelers Championship through 2014,” said Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez in a statement.
“This tournament not only benefits many Hartford charities and residents but it is also a symbol of good corporate citizenship and commitment.”
This year's Travelers Championship will be held the week of June 22-28.
