Greenwich Lawmakers Seek Safer Boating Legislation After Teen's Death

A legislative delegation moved by the August tubing death of a Greenwich High School honors student wants the General Assembly to take a closer look at Connecticut's boating laws.

The four Greenwich lawmakers are in the early stages of discussing legislation aimed at making state's waters safer.

Sixteen-year-old Emily Fedorko was killed when the propeller of the boat that was towing her tube struck her.

Greenwich Selectman Drew Marzullo is a paramedic who responded to the accident. He sent a letter to the delegation asking them to tighten the laws.

Among his ideas is to bring the state's boat licensing requirements in line with requirements for obtaining a driver's license.

Marzullo says he doesn't know if stricter laws would have saved Emily, but he believes a discussion is overdue.
