A group is circulating an online petition to make changes to the Affordable Care Act before it takes effect.
The Act, also called Obamacare, requires all Americans to sign up for health insurance or face a penalty. Thousands of uninsured Connecticut residents will soon be able to sign up for a health care plan on statewide exchange.
But a group, called Americans for Prosperity, doesn't think that the new mandates are fair.
"It's way too expensive to go through these exchanges," said AFP Connecticut Director JR Romano.
The group is calling on Congress to allow individuals to be exempt from having to sign up.
"Congress has taken steps to exempt specific groups from not having to deal with the exchanges, particularly themselves," Romano said.
The petition lists members of Congress, their staff and other groups who are exempt.

But members of Connecticut's delegation have pushed back.
"Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Connecticut residents cannot be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions and will not lose their insurance if they get sick," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal in a statement to NBC Connecticut. "Our state is receiving tens of millions of dollars in new aid to cover families on Medicaid, combat fraud, and to help residents navigate new benefits."
Opponents of health reform admit they face an uphill fight.
The health insurance exchange goes live on Oct. 1.
