Teen Struck Crossing Street

A Guilford teenager is fighting for his life after being hit by a car on Boston Post Road Wednesday afternoon.

Mark Weed, 15, was trying to cross the street around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to say hello to a friend but never made it across, police said.

“I saw him get rammed by this car and dragged on the pavement,” Reed Rowbotham, of Guilford, said.

Neighbors heard the screeching tires and ran to help.

“I saw him lying in the road. Cars were trying to go around him. I pulled him out of the way and told him not to move,” said Ed Dinse, the next door neighbor.

Friends say Weed suffered a fractured skull and was rushed to Yale- New Haven hospital for surgery.

Investigators closed the road between West Lake Avenue and Jefferson Street for more than three hours and rush hour traffic was detoured around the scene.

Friends hope Weed recovers in time for his first day of high school next week.

At this point, the driver has not been charged.
