Ansonia police have arrested a man accused of shooting another man Tuesday afternoon.
Thirty-seven year old Sheldon Haley, of Ansonia, faces charges of first-degree assault, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment. Haley is a convicted felon, according to police.
Police said around 4 p.m. Tuesday they received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area of North Main Street and Fourth Street. Responding officers found a 27-year-old man suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Witnesses reported a dark-colored Honda leaving the scene of the shooting. The vehicle was later spotted by Derby police who attempted to stop the car. According to police, the driver, later identified as Haley, refused to stop and was pursued from Derby to West Haven where he was involved in an accident. Haley was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Haley is being held on a $300,000 bond. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
