Police say one student stabbed another during a fight outside Hamden High School Monday afternoon.
A ninth-grade Hamden High School student is in custody Monday following a stabbing, which required a fellow student to receive treatment at the hospital, police said. Police said Tuesday that the victim has also been charged.
The suspect, 13, is accused of stabbing a fellow student multiple times following a physical altercation near the school, according to police. Police said they recovered a small folding knife near the scene on Dixwell Avenue.
The victim is a 14-year-old Hamden High School student, police said. The victim is in stable condition, police said Tuesday.
Police said they were called to the area of a city bus stop outside the school around 2:15 p.m. on Monday.

One student said this stabbing has left them scared and they want more to be done for safety.
"I just feel they should add metal detectors. And they’re always talking about how they care about our safety but they are not really doing anything because this isn’t the first time someone brought stuff to school. People bring stuff all the time," Natalie Velez, a 10th-grader, told NBC Connecticut.
Hamden Public School officials said in a statement that they "keep our thoughts and prayers with the victim of this attack."

The district added that adding metal detectors has been a topic with the District Safety Team, which, after discussion, has opted against recommending them at the high school. The Board of Education and Legislative Council would need to get involved if the community wants to further consider the issue.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information or video of the fight to call Detective Andrew Lipford at 203-230-4055.
