Hamden High Sophomore Struck, Killed

A sophomore at Hamden High School was killed after she was struck by a vehicle late Thursday.

Lynette Martinez, 16, of Hamden, was talking on her cell phone and crossing Dixwell Avenue near Woodin Street when she was hit, police said.

She was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Hamden Police received a report around 10:45p.m Thursday night that a pedestrian had been struck. When they arrived, the found Martinez lying in the roadway, police said.

The driver who hit her is a 38-year-old Hamden man, police said. Police are investigating.
