Hartford Apartment Fire Forces Residents From Homes

Food left on a stove in a third-floor apartment is likely to blame for a fire early Friday morning on Martin Street in Hartford, according to fire officials. They said the stove was on when a resident fell asleep.

Firefighters say flames were shooting from the third-floor when they arrived at the 12-unit building at 3:22 a.m.

Crews were able to knock down the fire before it could spread to any other units. Two nearby units did sustain some smoke and water damage.

One resident was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, fire official said.

Up to 20 people are temporarily displaced from the building but officials said they hope to get some of the residents back in their apartments soon.

The official cause of the fire is under investigation.
