A woman was grazed by a bullet that came through the floor from a residence above her in Hartford on Friday, according to police.

Police said they received a report just before 11 a.m. that a woman in a three-family home on Bonner Street was suffering from a gunshot wound.

“It appeared that the gunshot wound came from the second floor of the building,” Lt. Aaron Boisvert, of Hartford Police, said.

Around 12 people were in the building when the woman was hit, according to police. They secured the building, evacuated surrounding homes and said they made contact with a tenant of the second floor.

The shooting appears to have been an accident and people in the home are cooperating with authorities, according to police. Police said the shooter fled before police arrived and they are trying to identify him.

Residents are now able to return to their homes.
