NBC Universal, Inc.

Investigators said they believe the victim was shot and are investigating the death as a homicide.

Hartford police are investigating what they believe to be a homicide at a multi-family residence.

Lt. Aaron Boisvert said police were called to the area of 93 Spring St. at approximately 1 p.m. Responding officers said they believe a woman was shot and there was evidence of gunfire inside the apartment. She has been identified as 53-year-old Catherine Hays.

The crime scene division and medical examiner will return to the home Monday night with a search warrant as a part of their investigation.

Hartford police are investigating what they believe to be homicide at a multi-family residence.

Boisvert said several families live in the building where the shooting allegedly occurred. Police said they've responded to the multi-family building before for other disturbances but not to this particular unit.

Officials believe Hayes was killed sometime on Monday.

The incident appears to be a targeted attack and not random, according to Boisvert.

Authorities are looking to speak with people who saw what happened or who have information about the alleged shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
