Cocaine Triggered Hazmat Investigation in Madison: Police

The substance that triggered the evacuation of a senior center in Madison on Monday has tested positive for cocaine, according to police.

According to officers, a senior found a bag filled with 20 grams of an unknown substance in the parking lot of the senior center on Bradley Road. The senior then brought it inside of the senior center, where someone called 911 around 11:15 a.m.

First responders from Madison and Guilford responded to the scene and temporarily evacuated the senior center.

Guilford firefighters conducted a preliminary test on the substance and said it determined there was evidence of cocaine.
