Hebron Harvest Fair Wraps Up Sunday

Sunday is the last day of the Hebron Harvest Fair, with the gates closing at 7:30 p.m. Cooler temperatures welcomed hundreds to the fairgrounds where more than 130 vendors opened up shop.

“We’re meeting a bunch of friends over for the food and for the animals,” says Laura Aylward from Cromwell, whose daughter, Eve, added, “my favorite is the pony rides."

Dairy competitions began promptly at 9 a.m. when the gates opened, beginning with the Senior Showcase Competition for 16 to 18 year-old handlers. Casey Wolf, of East Hampton, was preparing her two year-old red and white Holstein, Wild Rose, for a later show this evening, “with a top line, which just makes the animal look more presentable.”

Wolf says this year’s competition is more special for Wild Rose than year’s past. “She is actually going to have a calf in March,” says Wolf, “so she is pregnant.”

Sunday’s main event, the diaper dash, began at 11:00 a.m., where babies are placed on one end of a racing mat and crawl toward their parent on the other side while being timed.

General admission is $13, with $5 to park on the fairgrounds. A section of Gate B is reserved for pick-ups and drop-offs by Uber and Lyft services.

The fairground gates close at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
