Helium Balloons Knock Out Power in Meriden

Daffodil festival balloons cause power outage in Meriden.

More than 1,100 in Meriden lost power on Sunday after several helium balloons got away from a vendor at the city’s Daffodil Festival and knocked out a transformer, according to Connecticut Light & Power.

Power was knocked out just before 8 p.m. and was restored around 11 p.m.

The 34th annual Daffodil Festival in Hubbard Park, featured live music and more than two dozen food vendors, but only a few daffodils.

Most of them died off after blooming early during the warm temperatures.
