Police have identified a man who was killed in a shooting in Hartford's South End early Monday morning.

Officers were called to Bushnell Street just before 1 a.m. after getting a report of shots fired and someone down in the roadway.

When police arrived, they said they found 36-year-old Erick Rodriguez, of Hartford, unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Hartford Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, authorities added.

A homicide investigation is underway in Hartford on Monday morning.

Officers have recovered physical evidence at the scene and are working to process it. The Major Crimes Division is taking over the investigation and detectives are planning on doing door-to-door canvases, police said.

At this time, there are no suspects.

Investigators said they do not believe the shooting was random and it appears Rodriguez and his shooter knew each other. Police believe both were on foot at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hartford Police Department's tip line at (860) 722-8477. Calls can be made anonymously.
