Police ID Hartford Man Killed in Early Morning Shooting

Hartford police have identified a man killed in an early morning shooting on Saturday.

Officers responded to Franklin Avenue around 1:30 a.m. after getting a report of shots fired and a person down.

When police arrived, they said they found a man, later identified as 36-year-old Efrain Nieves, of Hartford, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso.

Medical aid was rendered to Nieves and he was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment, police added.

When Nieves arrived at the hospital, he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes Division and Crime Scene Division responded to the incident and are investigating.

Investigators said based on evidence, it appears Nieves was targeted and the incident appears to be narcotic-related.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hartford Police Department Tip Line at (860) 722-8477.

Wayland Street was closed between Franklin Avenue and Wethersfield Avenue while police investigated, but has since reopened.
