Hope Springs Features Local Scenes and Local Actress

You might recognize local towns and University of Hartford grad Marin Ireland.

"Hope Springs" is considered a must-see movie this summer and you might notice some familiar places and faces when you go see it.

The film opens today and Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones star in the film, which was shot in part in Stonington Borough.

However, the Southeastern Connecticut stands in for a small fictional town in Maine.

"Hope Springs" is about a middle-aged couple attending an intense counseling weekend to decide the fate of their marriage after being together for 30 years, according to IMDB.  

In addition to local sites, you might also recognize Marin Ireland, a 2000 graduate of the Hartt School at the University of Hartford. She plays the couple's daughter, Molly, in the film.

To turn Stonington Borough into Maine, crews transformed storefronts on Water Street.

Noah’s Restaurant was altered to be the “Nor'easter Diner” and AK Dasher Jewelry was temporarily turned into a hardware store.

Scenes were also shot in Guilford,  South Norwalk, Stamford and Darien.

Steve Carell plays the the marriage therapist Streep and Jones go to see, but he did not film scenes in the Nutmeg State. His scenes were previously filmed elsewhere.
