Dirty Sites, Web Mail a No-No at City Hall

Sites like visitlasvegas and hornymatches.com are not helping Bristol city employees do their jobs, and they are taking up bandwidth, so now many, many types of sites, which range from real estate to online games, are banned.

City leaders, who told the Bristol Press they are concerned that the computers could overwhelm available bandwidth, are blocking access to millions of web sites that have been identified as "non-business related," the newspaper reports.

Some of the sites have been off-limits since 2007 when former mayor William Stortz adopted a new web policy, the newspaper reports.

He limited website access on city computers after finding city workers were logging onto some sites while at work.

This new policy expands the list of websites that are no longer accessible to employees, including not only explicit sites but also kid sites, sports and Web-based e-mail.
