One Still in Hospital from House Explosion

Explosion shakes up neighborhood, send three to hospital

A home exploded into pieces and shook up the neighborhood in East Granby Nov. 13.  All that's left standing now from the ranch house at 36 North Road is the chimney.  One of three people injured remains hospitalized.

The homeowners, Laurie and Kenneth Sullivan, and a contractor were in the basement when the house blew up at about 7 p.m.  It became engulfed in flames but, amazingly, the victims are expected to be OK. They were treated at a hospital for second and third degree burns.  A friend of the family said the Sullivans were flown to the burn unit in Bridgeport.

Kenneth and the contractor, Michael Aliano, have been discharged. Laurie remains at Bridgeport Hospital in fair condition.

The couple's dog and cat were not as fortunate. They did not survive the blast.

Neighbors told NBC30 that a propane tank had been installed recently at the house but investigators are not saying yet if that was the cause of the explosion.

Investigators continue to determine the cause of the explosion.
