77-Year-Old Woman Dies in Windham House Fire: Police

State police are investigating after a woman who was trapped in a house fire in Windham has died.

The house fire closed Route 14 in Windham on Saturday morning.

Police have identified the victim as 77-year-old Regina Aszklar of Windham.

Fire officials said 11 fire departments responded to the house fire on Scotland Road around 6:30 a.m.

“It immediately escalated to a second alarm. We currently have 11 fire departments involved plus the medics from Windham Hospital and the Willimantic Ambulance plus state police and fire marshal,” Windham Public Information Officer Susan Herrick said.

Aszklar's husband was also home at the time of the fire and was treated on scene, police said.

Route 14 remained closed for hours between Oakwood Drive and the Scotland town line, but has since reopened.
