How to Help Victims of Newtown School Shooting

Donations continue to come in to help Newtown after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School last month.

Here are some ways you can help:

Concert for Hope and Healing

There will be a concert at the Ridgefield Playhouse to benefit the survivors and honor the victims. The concert is at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Sunday, Jan. 20. Performers include Edie Brickell, Bernie Williams, Kicking Daisies, Andrea Frierson, Carly and Eliza, and more and on Jan. 20 with Johnny Winter and his band, Ed Kowalczyk from Live, April Kry & Steve Gaspar, Gary Portnoy, Steve Clark Trio, Whiskey Preacher, Bobby Paltauf, Chris Berardo & The DesBerardos, Wagon Wheel Band and more. All of the proceeds will go toward a memorial park as well as ongoing psychological trauma help for the survivors. Balcony, Mezzanine and Orchestra $45; Gold Circle Seating: $75.

United Way

The United Way has set up the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.

“United Way extends our most sincere condolences and prayers to all those families affected by the devastating events in Newtown/Sandy Hook, Connecticut. While the eyes of the world may be on Newtown/Sandy Hook, to several staff, volunteers and contributors, Newtown is home. We will stand with the community and everyone affected directly and indirectly by this tragic event as we face the days and weeks ahead,” the United Way of Western Connecticut’s Web site says.

The Newtown Memorial Fund is raising funds for expenses for police duty overtime and other community financial needs that arise,  to assist the town with the design, placement and funding to donate a suitable lasting memorial for the community in tribute to those we lost and to provide an annual scholarship fund to help students of the Newtown Public Schools who will be going on to college.

Sandy Hook Memorial and Scholarship Fund

The Connecticut Education Association has created the “Sandy Hook Memorial and Scholarship Fund.” Teachers as well as the general public can make donations at www.cea.org.

Friends of the Engel Family Fund

The Friends of the Engel Family Fund has been set up in memory of Olivia Engel.

James R. Mattioli Memorial Fund

Chase Kowalksi Scholarship Fund

Ana Grace Fund

The Ana Grace Fund will provide financial assistance to the immediate family of Ana Grace Márquez Greene to help with their transition back into day-to-day life and provide a wider range of choices going forward.

Ana Grace Marquez-Greene Music Scholarship Fund

The fund was established to pay tribute to Ana's love of music. The scholarship will assist others who want to pursue a music education at Western Connecticut State University.  Ana's father is an assistant professor of music at WCSU.  You can donate to the fund, care of Western Connecticut State University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 181 White Street, Danbury, CT 06810, or donate online here.
