Hunting, Fishing Guides Must Register Annually

Hunting and fishing guides now have to register annually in Connecticut.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is reminding people who provide guide services that, beginning in January, they must sign up with DEEP. They can register online using DEEP's sportsmen licensing system or in person at DEEP offices and at other vendors where hunting and fishing licenses and permits are available.

It costs $100 to register.

Operators and crew of vessels registered in the state as a charter or party boat are exempt from the new guide registration when providing fishing guide services on a registered vessel.

Under the same new law, which takes effect on Jan. 1, fishing, hunting and trapping licenses for 16- and 17-year-olds has been reduced to half the regular fee.
