Woman Flagging Down Drivers Hit and Killed on I-84 in Newtown: Police

Part of Interstate 84 east in Newtown is closed on Monday morning after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

A woman who was trying to flag down passing vehicles after her car had broken down on I-84 in Newtown was hit and killed Monday morning, according to state police.

The car broke down in the left lane on I-84 East near Exit 13 around 3:30 a.m.

Police said 22-year-old Samantha Figueroa, of Hartford, got out of her car and stood in the left lane trying to get the attention of passing drivers.

A tractor-trailer in the left lane crashed into the disabled car, hitting Figueroa, state police said.

She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
