If You Building It, They Will Come

University of Connecticut President Dr. Michael Hogan has released a proposal to build a new $500 million hospital.

The facility would include 250 beds, and replace the current John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington.  Dr. Hogan said the new school could attract more students.

The announcement came on Monday, two days ahead of the release of Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell's budget address.  The University of Connecticut is bracing for a five percent cut in funding, which would translate to roughly $34.5 million.

The school will have to fill the budget gap by making layoffs or by raising tuition, Hogan said.
