Irene Affects Buses, Trains, Ferries

Be prepared for public modes of transportation to be affected during the storm.

CTTRANSIT bus service will be suspended in  the Hartford, New Haven, Stamford, Bristol, New Britain, Meriden, Waterbury and Wallingford Divisions beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday, according to Gov. Dannel Malloy.

Metro North will stop service on the New Haven line at noon on Saturday, and Shoreline East trains will stop running at 8 p.m., Malloy said.

Incremental suspension of the subway, bus, service will begin approximately eight hours prior to sustained 39 mph winds reaching the area.

The Rocky Hill-Glastonbury and Chester-Hadlyme ferries are closed in preparation for Irene and remain closed until further notice, according to a Tweet from Gov. Dannel Malloy.

All departures on the Long Island Ferry from  New London are canceled after 8 p.m. and all boats from Orient Point are canceled after 4 p.m. The Block Island Ferry has canceled all trips for Saturday and Sunday. Check their Web sites for more updates.
