Jeep Jumps Curb, Strikes 4

A 74-year-old man drove over a curb and struck four people coming from an independent living facility Tuesday afternoon, police said. 

The man was driving a Jeep on Whalley Avenue, near Dayton Street toward downtown New Haven around 1:30 p.m. when he hit the people from Chapel Haven, who were out walking, according to police.

The Jeep continued into the McDonald's parking lot, where it smashed into two empty, parked cars, police said.

The driver has non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Veterans Affairs Hospital.

Two of the pedestrians were brought to Hospital of St. Raphael with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. They are in stable condition. 

The other two pedestrians are at Yale-New Haven hospital with non-life threatening head injuries.

Police believed that all the victims are adults. It is not known if they are patients or  employees of the facility or family members of people affiliated with the facility.
