Jury Selection Set in Murder-for-Hire Case

Jury selection is set to start in the trial of a Bloomfield woman who is accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill her ex-husband.

Tiffany Stevens, 39, has been charged with attempted murder in the alleged murder-for-hire plot.

Prosecutors allege Stevens paid a maintenance man $5,000 to kill her ex-husband, Eric Stevens, in 2012, when they were involved in a divorce and child custody case that remains pending.

The custody case winner apparently would control a $50 million fund linked to their daughter's care, according to police, and the would-be hit man told police about the plot.

Tiffany Stevens posted $1 million bail and still has custody of her daughter. She has pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution and defense are scheduled to begin picking jurors on Monday in Hartford Superior Court.
