Even before Susan G. Komen for the Cure reversed its decision and said it will fund Planned Parenthood, an official at the Connecticut chapter said it would not stop funding for Planned Parenthood clinics in the state.
“This decision is a resounding victory for women’s health care. Komen’s reversal is a response to an overwhelming outpouring of support for women’s health – which I was proud to be a part of," U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal said.
The board president of the state Komen chapter, Ann Hogan, told the New Haven Register and The Boston Globe this week that the chapter won't pull a $38,000 grant that ends in June for Planned Parenthood of Southern New England.
The national Komen organization was deluged with negative emails and online postings since The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that the charity was halting grants that Planned Parenthood affiliates used for breast exams and related services.
Those grants totaled $680,000 last year. Komen is being accused of knuckling under pressure to anti-abortion groups.
"Now more than ever, we must resist and reject baseless, ideological attacks on women’s health care from extreme, right wing political groups. I look forward to continuing to work to ensure that every woman, regardless of income, has access to the vital health services she deserves,” Blumenthal said.
