Lamont Nominates Department of Transportation Commissioner

A former president of the Metro-North Railroad has been nominated by Governor-elect Ned Lamont as Connecticut's next transportation chief.

Lamont said he will work with Joe Giulietti as Department of Transportation commissioner to reduce the time it takes to travel by rail from Connecticut to New York City among other projects.

Giulietti was hired to lead the Metro-North Railroad after a series of derailments and other safety-related mishaps on the commuter railway in 2013. He worked previously for 15 years at the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority.

Giulietti said he believes the Metro-North lines are ripe for enhancement and upgrades. He said he also appreciates Lamont's emphasis on upgrading infrastructure and developing transit as a way to drive economic growth.
