Lamont to Enter Gubernatorial Race: Sources

Officials at the Old State House in Hartford say Ned Lamont has reserved space there for a major announcement on Tuesday.

It's pretty much of a guarantee that he will announce he is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor this year.

According to Old State House spokesman William Bevacqua, Lamont will be using the site to make his announcement next Tuesday at noon.

It happens to be the same place he announced his run for the U.S. Senate in March 2006 when he defeated incumbent Sen. Joe Lieberman in a statewide primary but then lost in the general election to Lieberman, who was then running as an independent.

According to the Associated Press, at least one Democratic official is confirming Lamont's intentions to run for governor and that the announcement will be made on Tuesday.

Bevacqua said Lamont will make his announcement from the room used as a court house in the small building on Main Street that once served as the state capitol.

Lamont's campaign has confirmed that he will announce on Tuesday.

Former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy is also an announced candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.  It's believed Lamont and Malloy are the two front runners at this point.

Also looking at the nomination are Simsbury First Selectwoman Mary Glassman, Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi and health care advocate Juan Figueroa.

James Amman, the former House Speaker who declared his candidacy for governor last year, pulled out of this race earlier this week.
