A year-and-a-half-long project to widen part of Route 6 in Bristol and Farmington begins on April 1.
The state Department of Transportation will be widening Route 6 from Carol Drive in Bristol to Peggy Lane in Farmington and adding a second eastbound lane to address congestion and safety.
There will be lane closures on Route 6between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
When the contractor is actively working, flaggers will be alternating one-way traffic.
There will be lane closured on all other roads from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.
There will also be upgrades and modifications to the traffic signals.
The nearly $12.9 million project, awarded to Empire Paving, is scheduled to be completed Nov. 30, 2018.
